The Owner

Hounds & Hills grew out of a working life spent close to dogs — years in specialist animal retail, professional dog grooming, and a passion for canine care — and a personal love of the Wicklow trails.

Every walk is paced to the dog in front of me, and every hike is scouted for safety and seasonal beauty. The aim is simple: dogs that come home tired, calm and well looked after.

Words from owners

Reggie comes home properly tired in a way the local park has never managed. Calm, content, slightly muddy — exactly right.

Kevin & Reggie, Clane

Sophia takes real care with Pluto. The little notes after each walk tell you everything you need to know about the day he's had.

Lorna & Pluto, Naas

Ted loves meeting Sophia for a check-in or walk on the days where myself and my partner are both working in the office. Bonus is that we don't need to add in time for drop offs and collections anywhere, we just go to work as normal.

FAQ

Questions, gently answered.

Where do you cover?+

Check-ins and local walks are offered within roughly 30–40 minutes of Naas, County Kildare (Clane, Sallins, Newbridge, Kilcullen, Maynooth and surrounds). Adventure and guided hikes run in the Wicklow Mountains around Glendalough.

How big are the groups?+

Local walks are one-to-one or a carefully paired two. Adventure hikes are a maximum of three or four dogs, matched on temperament and pace.

Do you do a meet & greet first?+

Always. Every new dog starts with a relaxed meet & greet at your home — no commitment, just a proper introduction.

What's your weather policy?+

Irish weather is what it is — we walk in rain, wind and mist. Hikes are only postponed for genuinely unsafe conditions (ice on the ridge, severe wind warnings).

Is my dog suitable?+

Most dogs are. We're honest at the meet & greet about what suits your dog: a quiet local walk, a paired stroll, or full mountain days.

Off-lead and recall?+

Dogs are off-lead only when recall is reliable and the terrain is safe. Otherwise they stay on a long line — never a compromise we make on the hills.

Insurance & safety?+

Fully insured for canine care and guided walks. Outdoor first aid kit on every hike and a route plan shared in advance.

What should I expect on a guided hike?+

A pre-hike chat, a trailhead briefing, a measured pace led by someone who knows the route, photographs sent the same evening, and tea afterwards if there's time.
